I have found that teaching with technology has great advantages. The most noticeable advantage to me is that students are excited and engaged when they use technology. An example of this is having my students play a vocabulary game once a week, for 10 minutes, on freerice.com. They get so excited and don't even realize that they are learning and practicing vocabulary. They have fun, while learning and to me that is wonderful!
If you haven't yet, check out freerice.com!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on this great vocabulary site. I enjoyed challenging my word knowledge and can see where kids would enjoy "playing" on this site as well. I'll be sharing this web page with my colleagues.
Freerice.com is a great and fun website for students to expand their vocabulary and help others in the process. My students love to "play" around with the site and really find out what it can do. Because of them, I know that you can change the level, the type of vocabulary questions (ie: Math vocab, Science, etc.), and even the language. So for ESL students, the computer can offer Spanish vocabulary and even read the word to them in Spanish. Some of them also enjoy changing the accent that the computer uses to speak to them. Technology can be amazing. For the most part, if I can introduce a program or a site to my students, then they can figure out how to use it and teach each other. So even though I'm teaching the lesson objectives, they are teaching each other technology "life skills"
ReplyDeleteTiff,
ReplyDeleteEastoftheweb is a great site as well that has vocabulary games. I have been using freerice for awhile now. It can be very challenging and I don't even know the words sometimes :)
Dear Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the essence of what a blog page contains. It's easy to navigate; easy on the eyes, and doesn't contain too much information on the home page. Cute Dog!

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions everyone! I have learned so much with blogging already; I can't wait to learn more.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteI just recently heard someone talking about freerice.com at a Learning Focus conference I was attending. Thanks for reminding me about this great site. I am planning on implementing freerice.com into my vocabulary lessons next year. Do you have computers in your room for your students or do you take them to a computer lab?
